Cha-am
South of Phetchaburi along the western seaboard is the beach town of Cha-am. Once a low-key fishing and market village, Cha-am has grown in popularity, particularly with people who yearn for a weekend escape from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.
Cha-am is mainly known for its fresh seafood. Eating and drinking in a relaxing seaside environment is the main draw for the locals and expats alike. The local fare can be enjoyed at both open-air eateries with umbrella-shaded tables out on the beach, and more traditional restaurants near the north end of the beach or cantilevered out over the water on stilts at the edge of the harbor. The beaches are picture-postcard perfect, not crowded and clean, with warm gentle waters perfect for swimming.
Cha-am has recently become known for more sophisticated dining experiences mainly located on the beachfront, including Thai, European, Thai fusion and Japanese cuisine.
Cha-am is becoming a popular choice for home and condominium buyers due to the quiet environment and natural beauty which resembles earlier times in Thailand. Cha-am offers a more attractive price alternative to the highly developed tourist locations such as Phuket, Pattaya and even Hua Hin.
